If this sounds interesting to you, then you’ll want to be a Summer Explorer at the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy! Since our Summer Explorer themes follow a four-year rotating schedule, you can join while you’re in kindergarten and continue through third grade, learning exciting new things each year. Our yearly themes include “Water”, “Abiotics”, “Animals", and “Plants”.
During the summer of 2008 we will focus on "Water, Water Everywhere!"

So, what is water, “really”? Experiment with water in its three states, search for water in the foods you eat, examine (and experience!) the depth, color, and life in the Perkiomen Creek, perform a water cycle skit, create your own watershed model, and … so much more. Count on getting wet! |

Big word, eh? Abiotics are the “non-living” things that every “living thing” needs to survive; sun, soil, air, and water. Spend a day investigating each of these incredible factors. You will inspect the make-up of soil, predict the power of the sun’s rays, create earth masterpieces, explore the world of water, and experiment with bubbles…. The study of abiotics is more than a neat word, it’s an adventure! |

Buzz into the world of insects, move with mammals, crawl with creek critters, and bond with birds! Study animal adaptations while examining wings, feathers, and fur. View mounted mammal specimens up close, design your own bug, and make animal tracks. Get better acquainted with two, four, six, even one hundred-legged creatures in your watershed!

Ah, Does this bring to mind that tender song, “It’s not so easy being green...”? Find out how important green leaves truly are! Uncover the life-cycle of plants, learn about the amazing process of photosynthesis, find out who needs trees, examine wildflower seeds, investigate creek-side plants, construct a vine, identify a bush. Discover the 'Zing' plants add to your life!

Hey kids, as a Summer Explorer you will…
· ...delve into a variety of exciting and imaginative activities centered
around our theme of the year
· ... play games, create crafts, do experiments
· ...record observations in your own unique journal
· ...and make new friends!
Of course, we always have time for music, environmental theater, and a mid-morning snack, too!
Summer Explorers classes are small in size to ensure personal attention. Two Educators and several Summer Explorer Assistants guide students through the day’s activities. Because space is limited, early registration is recommended!
A Note to Parents…
We feel it is imperative that children of all ages be given opportunities to form a kinship with the natural world. Not merely to view it, but to experience it. Through investigation and observation, kids discover together how the natural world works and begin building a relationship with it. Since the Perkiomen Creek is the thread that we have in common, what better place for a classroom? Developing a sense of place here within the Perkiomen Watershed links us to the land in which we live.
Integral to our program philosophy is that each student be given the opportunity to learn and grow in an atmosphere that is exploratory, supportive, and exciting. To this end, our staff is composed of gifted and knowledgeable educators who are lifelong learners. We take delight in making discoveries alongside children.
Summer Explorers Registration Fees:
