Water Chestnut Work Days

  • Bergey's Pond 624 Meeting House Road Telford, PA, 18969 United States (map)

DESCRIPTION

Help the Conservancy's Team remove an invasive aquatic plant species, European Water Chestnut, from a local pond!

- Best Address: 624 Meeting House Road, Telford, 18969. The pond is located directly across the street from this address and behind Bryce's Detailing. Please click here to view a Google Map of the pond and the parking location.

- Parking: We will be parking up the road at the overflow parking for the Franconia Mennonite Church. This parking location is also marked on the map above.

- What to Wear: Please dress to get wet and dirty! Please wear clothes and shoes that you do not mind getting wet or muddy. If you have a pair of hip or chest waders, feel free to bring them along! The Conservancy also has waders that volunteers can use during the work day. You are also welcome to bring a kayak if you have one! We will be wading into the pond to hand-pull in the invasive plants. The plants will be bagged in trash bags and composted on site.

- What to Bring: Please bring plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat, snacks, and anything else you would like to work outdoors. You may also want to bring a towel and a change of shoes for after the work day! You are welcome to bring your own waders or a kayak if you'd like.

- Volunteer Activity: Volunteers will help Conservancy staff hand pull an invasive aquatic plant called European water chestnut. This plant is incredibly invasive and spreads throughout waterways in southeastern Pennsylvania and beyond. Hand pulling the plant is a great way to remove it from a waterway and help prevent the spread to other waterways. We will wade into the waterway, hand pull plants, put them in bags, and compost them on site.
