Learn about and participate in local conservation projects!
Join us for our 2024 Volunteer Training Sessions! We are hosting quarterly hands-on, service learning sessions focusing on four conservation projects and their related environmental topics. The goal of these training sessions is to provide interested volunteers with valuable information about the purpose of Conservancy projects, while also giving participants additional training that will enable them to better assist and support staff during projects. The creation of a trained force of volunteers will empower the Conservancy to tackle and maintain more conservation projects which benefit the Perkiomen Creek Watershed.
Volunteers do not have to participate in this program in order to participate in Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy volunteer opportunities. However, please note that membership to the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy is required to register for the Volunteer Training Sessions program.

Training Session Projects & Topics
Stream Clean-up & Litter Pollution:
Get involved in one of the Conservancy’s largest events, the Stream Clean-up! During this training session, volunteers will tour a Stream Clean-up site with Conservation Coordinator, Jessie Kemper. Volunteers will learn how to assess clean-up sites, identify new clean-up sites, and receive information about serving as a Stream Clean-up Site Leader. Volunteers will also select a “region” of clean-up sites to assess to help Conservancy staff prepare for the Stream Clean-up.
Water Quality Monitoring & Stream Health:
Participate in our new water quality monitoring program! During this training session, volunteers will learn how to use water quality testing kits to learn about the health of local waterways. Volunteers will adopt specific monitoring sites within the watershed and engage in monthly testing at their adopted sites for 6 - 12 month increments.
Butterfly Surveys:
Join the Conservancy for our newest project - butterfly surveys! These surveys will provide a way to monitor species diversity present at a site from year to year. The Conservancy is establishing base-line data for its Conservation plantings and Restoration projects to see which butterfly species they support.
Riparian Buffers & Tree Plantings:
Get involved in planting and nurturing thousands of trees in the watershed! During this training session, volunteers will learn how to properly plant trees and maintain past tree planting sites located in the watershed. Volunteer trainees will attend future tree plantings and assist Conservancy staff in ensuring all trees are being planted properly.
